The USA's 2026 World Cup begins at SoFi Stadium on 12 June against Paraguay. Eight matches in total: five in the group stage, two in the Round of 32, and a quarter-final on 10 July. For FIFA matchdays the venue runs under the tournament name Los Angeles Stadium. The rest of the year, SoFi is the most expensive stadium ever built — opened in 2020 at a final cost over $5 billion — and the shared home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.

The building

HKS Architects designed SoFi — the same firm behind AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The first NFL game was played on 13 September 2020, behind closed doors because of COVID. Final construction cost ran to roughly $5.5 billion, the most expensive stadium ever built. Construction began in 2016 on the site of the old Hollywood Park Racetrack.

The roof is the signature feature: a translucent ETFE canopy 50 metres above the pitch, sides left open to the air. The Infinity Screen is a 70,000-square-foot, 360-degree centre-hung video board — the largest in any stadium in the world.

Listed capacity is 70,240, expandable past 100,000 with standing-room. For the World Cup the venue runs at around 70,000 in a soccer configuration.

Big matches here

Super Bowl LVI on 13 February 2022 (Rams 23, Bengals 20, Cooper Kupp MVP). WrestleMania 39 in 2023. The 2023 College Football Championship (Georgia 65, TCU 7). The 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup final, Mexico 1, Panama 0. Lionel Messi played here for Argentina in friendlies in 2024 and 2025. Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for February 2027, seven months after the World Cup final.

Getting there

Los Angeles has no good rail option. The Metro K Line (formerly Crenshaw) opened a Downtown Inglewood station in 2022, about 1.5 miles from SoFi, with a free shuttle to the stadium on event days. Plan 45–60 minutes from Downtown LA.

Driving is the LA default. SoFi has its own parking lots and surrounding overflow; event-day prices run $40–$100. The 405 and 105 are the main approaches. Allow 60–90 minutes from anywhere in greater LA on event days.

Uber and Lyft work. From Downtown LA $30–$50 each way pre-match, surging hard after the whistle. From West Hollywood or Santa Monica, $25–$40. Designated rideshare zones at the YouTube Theater next to SoFi; five-minute walk to the gates.

LAX is fifteen minutes by car — closer than any other US WC venue.

The Forum (the old Lakers arena, now a concert venue) is across the street. The Intuit Dome (Clippers, opened 2024) is half a mile north. The Hollywood Park entertainment district is built out around the stadium.

Food and drink

The neighbourhood around SoFi is built for matchday but light on traditional bars and restaurants. Hollywood Park's plaza is the on-site option. For a real pre-match scene, base out of Downtown Inglewood (recently revitalised) or Manhattan Beach to the south.

Inside, the food slate is the most upscale of any US WC venue — chef-curated stands, local LA restaurant brands, pricing to match. The Infinity Screen makes it easier to keep watching while you're in line.

Seats

Lower level behind a goal for atmosphere. The 200 level is the SoFi sweet spot — close enough to feel the build-up, high enough to use the Infinity Screen. The very back of the upper deck has the worst sightlines; the screen rescues most upper seats, but not all.

Tickets

FIFA's official channel for all WC tickets. The USA opener, the USA group-3 match against Türkiye, and the 10 July quarter-final are all expected amongst the hardest tickets. Resale opens in waves through spring 2026.

Pair it with

LA is a one-stadium-per-day city given the traffic, but worth pairing. The Intuit Dome (Clippers, NBA) is half a mile from SoFi. BMO Stadium (LAFC, MLS) is 10 miles east in Exposition Park. Dodger Stadium is 12 miles north for an MLB game. The Galaxy's Dignity Health Sports Park is 12 miles south in Carson. A SoFi matchday plus an LAFC midweek match works with one car or rideshare.
